Appliance removal in Pearland
A washer or a range is just heavy metal. A refrigerator, a chest freezer, a wine cooler or a window AC unit is different: it holds refrigerant, and federal rules say what has to happen to that before the metal is scrapped.

The Refrigerant Rule, in Plain Terms
Under the U.S. EPA’s safe-disposal requirements, the last stop in the disposal chain, usually a scrap-metal recycler or a landfill, is responsible for making sure refrigerant is recovered from a household refrigerator or freezer before it is scrapped. If the appliance arrives already drained, that last stop has to get a signed statement giving the name and address of whoever recovered the refrigerant and the date. The EPA says it does not accept a sticker as proof.

What that means for you: ask the contractor where a refrigerator or freezer is going and whether the refrigerant is recovered before it gets there. A clear answer is a good sign.
Three Routes in Pearland
Curbside, if you are a City customer
Frontier Waste Solutions accepts white goods, washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers included, on bulk day. Its page says Freon must be removed by a licensed contractor first.
Drop-off
The Stella Roberts Recycling Center on Magnolia Parkway lists large appliances, with refrigerator doors removed, and charges a fee for refrigerated ones.
A hauler
When the appliance is inside, upstairs, or you cannot get it to the curb or the center, the crew takes it from where it stands.
Before the Crew Arrives
- 1
Empty and unplug it
Clear the food, unplug it a day early so the freezer can drain, and put a towel under it.
- 2
Shut off the water or gas
A washer needs its supply valves off; a gas range or dryer needs its gas shut off and capped. Capping gas is for a plumber or the gas company if you are not sure.
- 3
Measure the doorway
French-door refrigerators often need their doors off to get through a kitchen opening.
Asked About This One
Is a refrigerator worth anything as scrap?
Some haulers factor scrap value into a quote for a load with several appliances. Ask; do not assume.
Can a working appliance be donated?
Often, if it is clean and works. Some donation outlets pick up; others want it dropped off. The hauler can also tell you what they do with working units.
What about a window AC unit or dehumidifier?
Treat them like a small refrigerator: they contain refrigerant, and the same question about where it goes applies.
