Shed and playset demolition in Pearland

On a slab lot with no space under the house, the backyard shed takes whatever the garage could not hold. By the time it comes down it is usually full, leaning, and holding up a fence line it was never meant to.

A Shed Is Two Jobs

What is in it

Lawn equipment, paint, fertilizer, pool chemicals, gas cans. Fuel and chemicals are household hazardous waste, and most haulers will not take them; the Stella Roberts Recycling Center takes them from residents on its hazardous-waste days.

The building itself

Wood or metal walls, a roof, a floor on skids or on a slab. Metal sheds come apart at the screws; wood ones are usually cut into sections and loaded.

What stays

A concrete pad normally stays. Breaking out concrete is a different, heavier job; ask for it separately if you want the pad gone.

Swing sets and forts

Playsets

A wooden swing set or fort is built from heavy treated lumber with long bolts, and its posts are often set in concrete footings. The crew unbolts what it can and cuts the rest. Ask whether the footings come out or are cut at grade; a hole where a footing was needs filling.

Pearland lots on the newer west side are small enough that a playset may sit a few feet from the fence and the neighbor’s yard. The crew will need to work from your side; say if the fence is shared or leaning.

Why the Curb Will Not Take It

Frontier Waste Solutions, which collects Pearland’s residential trash, lists lumber, construction debris and tree limbs over 4 inches thick or 49 inches long among the things it will not collect as bulk, and caps a bulk pile at two cubic yards.

Questions

Asked About This One

Does the shed need to be empty first?

No, but it is cheaper if you have already pulled out anything you want to keep and anything flammable or chemical.

Do I need a permit to take a shed down?

This site has not confirmed a City of Pearland rule on shed demolition. If you are in an HOA, check its rules; many only care about what goes up, not what comes down.

What about a shed on a slab?

The walls and roof go; the slab normally stays unless you ask separately for concrete removal.
